Accessibility Statement

We want everyone in our community to be able to read our stories, find local businesses and events, and take part in Best Of voting.

Last updated: October 26, 2026

Our goal

Pooler Magazine aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA on this website. We do not meet that standard everywhere yet. This page lists what we have done, the problems we know about, and how to reach us if something does not work for you.

What we have in place

Known problems we are fixing

Colour contrast. Some text and buttons in our coral and teal colours, the small coloured labels above headings, light grey captions and form field borders are below the WCAG contrast ratios. We are darkening these colours across the site.

Heading order. On some pages, including the home page, contact page, subscribe page, archive pages and article pages, heading levels skip a step, which can make the page harder to follow with a screen reader.

Missing image descriptions. About 1 in 10 images on the site has no text description yet. This includes images inside older articles and some Best of Pooler 2026 gallery photos.

Older articles. Some articles moved over from our earlier website use bold text instead of real headings, have tables without header rows, or contain empty paragraphs.

Carousels. Stopping the Home, Things to Do and Restaurants carousels with Pause animations, and their keyboard behaviour, are new and still being tested with keyboards and screen readers.

Best Of campaign pages. Two buttons on the Best of Pooler 2026 and 2027 campaign pages do not lead anywhere yet.

Account area. Some small table buttons may be below the minimum target size, the details (i) icon does not yet report whether it is open, and the count of items waiting for review is not announced to screen readers.

Forms and services from other companies. Our contact and newsletter forms come from GoHighLevel, and payment fields come from Stripe. We are checking their labels, focus order and error messages, but we cannot fully control how they work. If one of them does not work for you, contact us another way and we will help.

Magazine PDFs. Older print issues may not work well with screen readers. Ask us and we will send you the story in another format.

How we test

On October 23, 2026 we scanned the code of 28 pages at desktop, tablet and phone sizes. We still need to run browser-based automated checks, test the main tasks using only a keyboard, and test with screen readers on iPhone and Windows. We will update this statement as we fix the problems above.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this site does not work for you, or you need a story, listing or magazine issue in another format, please tell us. Include the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
